Hearing protection
- Personal hearing protection should be used where extra protection is needed above what can be achieved using noise-control, and as a short-term measure while permanent solutions are being sought
- Personal hearing protection must be used where necessary to eliminate or reduce the risk to hearing
- Users or their representatives should be involved in the selection
- Training should promote the use of hearing protection if it is required and management should ensure it is properly used
- A broad range of different hearing protection products are available offering effective and suitable protection for most performance environments
Personal hearing protection should:
- control the risk
- not over-protect
- be comfortable and suitable for the working environment
- Be properly used
- Be worn whenever there is a noise hazard present
- Be readily available to all who need it
- Be properly maintained
